SWANCOR 983-M is a modified vinyl ester resin primer that combines the high toughness of elastomers with the physical properties of vinyl ester resins, the use of SWANCOR 983-M will result in the following benefits.
- Excellent adhesion strength and high toughness under metal substrates.
- Comparable chemical resistance to BISPHENOL-A vinyl ester resin.
- It is thixotropic and easy to apply.
- Better abrasion resistance than traditional vinyl ester resins.

Packaging, Storage, and Handling
- SWANCOR 983-M is available in 5-gallon steel drums weighing 20 kg each.
- SWANCOR 983-M is a reactive resin and should be stored in a cool place. If stored for a long period of time, the cap can be opened and air pumped in to extend the storage time.
- The gelation time of SWANCOR 983-M is mainly affected by the hardener concentration and temperature. Since hardener differences, humidity, pigment fillers and other additives can affect the hardening characteristics, it is recommended that the operator test the hardening characteristics of SWANCOR 983-M in small quantities under self-set operating conditions.
caveat
- Sandblast iron to Sa 2 1/2 before coating.
- For high humidity applications, the hardener content may be increased (at least 1.01 TP3T) to enhance hardening properties. With the correct hardener, high humidity does not affect the properties of SWANCOR 983-M.
- After sandblasting, apply SWANCOR 983-M within 8 hours, but the surface must be free from water droplets, grease, dust and other impurities that may prevent adhesion.
- After SWANCOR 983-M has been applied, the surface provides a good recoatability of the adhesive residue. Therefore, SWANCOR 983-M should be laminated within 4 hours in summer (8 hours in winter) and within one week. If it is not possible to laminate within the recommended time, a styrene tack test must be carried out prior to lamination. If there is no adhesion, the surface must be roughened before lamination.
- SWANCOR 983-M is a layered liquid and must be stirred well before use.
