Properties and Applications:
- Thermoset Composites: Perkadox? 16 is a solid peroxydicarbonate used primarily for curing unsaturated polyester and methacrylic resins at temperatures of 60°C and higher. Perkadox? 16 is not suitable for the production of clear castings or coatings as it can lead to cloudy final products. For transparent products it is recommended to use Perkadox? 16S . Perkadox? 16 exhibits high reactivity at elevated temperatures due to the low activation temperature of Perkadox? 16 as well as its long service life at room temperature.Perkadox? 16 is usually combined with less reactive peroxides such asTrigonox CTrigonox 29-B50. Trigonox 21S maybePerkadox? GB-50XUse together to ensure good curing. Ideal for applications where long gel times or production times are required at room temperature and fast curing at 60-140°C. Examples: pultrusion molding, fiber winding, artificial marble production, etc.
- Polymer Production: Polymerization of Vinyl Chloride: Perkadox? 16 can be used for suspension and intrinsic polymerization of Vinyl Chloride at temperatures in the range of 40-65°C. It can also be used as a polymerization agent for the polymerization of vinyl chloride. Perkadox? 16 can be used alone or in combination with other peroxides such as 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl peroxyneodecanoate (Trigonox 423), isopropylphenyl peroxyneodecanoate (Trigonox 99) or peroxydilauroyl (Laurox) are used in tandem to increase reactor efficiency.
- Acrylic Resin Production: Perkadox? 16 is an initiator for the (co-)polymerization of methacrylates and acrylates.
Half-life and thermal stability:
- The half-life of Perkadox 16 in chlorobenzene was 0.1 h (82°C), 1 h (64°C) and 10 h (48°C) at different temperatures.
- Thermally unstable with a self-accelerating decomposition temperature (SADT) of 40°C.
- Maximum storage temperature is 20°C.
Packaging and transportation:
- The standard packaging is 20kg carton, in compliance with international regulations.
- Perkadox 16 is a Class C organic peroxide, solid, temperature controlled, Class 5.2; UN3114.
Security and handling:
- Keep container tightly closed during storage and operation, store in a dry, well-ventilated place, away from heat or ignition sources, and avoid direct sunlight.
- Prohibit weighing and dispensing in the storage room and avoid contact with reducing agents, acids, alkalis and heavy metal compounds.
- Detailed safety information can be found in the Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
Main decomposition products:
- Carbon dioxide and 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol.
