Nouryon (formerly AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals) introduced a new version of Butanox M-50 Vanishing Red peroxide at JEC World, the leading trade event for the composites market. The new version includes a less hazardous dye solvent that allows customers to more safely handle and reduce its environmental impact while maintaining its industry-leading performance.

Vanishing Red is widely used by customers in the composites market as part of the curing process for unsaturated resins. Its red color fades as the resin cures, allowing customers to better monitor batching, mixing and curing progress.Vanishing Red is particularly useful for automating processes used in the manufacture of products such as wind turbine blades and boats.

"Customers using automated dosing equipment may experience problems if the peroxide does not flow correctly through the dosing line, resulting in an undercured or uncured final product," said Raymond ten Broeke, customer support engineer, Nouryon Polymer Chemistry. "If mold cleaning is required, this can be costly for manufacturers. The use of vanishing red peroxide helps prevent such failures without leaving any trace that any indicator has been used."

Nouryon recently expanded its peroxide product line in North America with the introduction of the Butanox-branded methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) product line, as well as the introduction of emulsion-based organic peroxides. The company also expanded capacity in Mexico and the United States. Another expansion project in Mexico will be completed this year, and additional capacity is scheduled to come online in Brazil, China and India.
