NOROX? PULCAT S is a highly reactive liquid mixture of peroxides based on methyl isobutyl ketone, which are antisensitized by aliphatic hydrocarbons. The peroxide is used as a curing agent (free radical source) for unsaturated polyester resins. The main application is the curing of large molded parts at high temperatures (60-120°C).
Technical data.
- Appearance: Colorless liquid
- Active Oxygen Content: Approx. 10.5% w/w
- Antisensitizer: Fatty esters
- Density (20°C): approx. 0.89 g/cm3
- Viscosity (20°C): approx. 5 mPas
- Solubility: insoluble in water, miscible with alcohols and phthalates
- Key temperature (SADT): approx. 50°C
- Refrigeration stability: liquid below -25°C
- Starting temperature: approx. 55°C
- Recommended storage temperature: below 25°C
- Activity retention time at 25°C after delivery: 6 months
- Complies with ElektroG (EU Directives: RoHS 2002/95/EG, WEEE 2002/96/EG)
Applications.
- Polyester resin curing
- Level of use: As a curing agent for UP resins, possibly in combination with cobalt accelerators
- Temperature range: 60-120°C
- Use Level: Use 1-2% of the product in its original packaging and, if required, in conjunction with accelerator COB-1TX at 0.1-0.5%.
- Cures at room temperature, typical "hold time" for resin + peroxide is 4-8 hours.
- Holding time can be extended by lowering the storage temperature
- Resin + peroxide + accelerator "use time" is usually 1-3 hours.
- Can be extended by addition of inhibitor TC-510
- Curing Properties: Relatively long gelatin time at room temperature, but short curing time, can be combined with cobalt accelerators
- Fast curing even in the absence of cobalt above approx. 55°C ("starting temperature")
- Moderate exotherm, low internal stresses
- Moderate cure, post-cure at 80-120°C recommended
- Processing method: specially designed to provide relatively long retention times with the lowest possible starting temperatures and therefore particularly suitable for continuous impregnation of (corrugated) sheets and applied gelatine coatings as well as for fiber winding of pipes and tanks
Measurement data.
- Used to cure the reactivity of polyester resins at room temperature:
- Resin: Normal phase acid polyester, medium reactivity
- Temperature: 25°C
- Method: DIN 16945 (20 g tubes)
- Formulation: Part by weight
- Used to cure the reactivity of polyester resins at high temperatures:
- Temperature range: 50°C-80°C
