Product Description:
- Norox? MEC RED is a red solution of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and cyclohexanone peroxide with an extinguishing agent. It exhibits excellent curing properties at low and ambient temperatures when used as an initiator with unsaturated polyester resins. Notably, the addition of a red dye aids in mixing.
Technical data:
- Active Oxygen Content: Not more than 9.0
- Form: Liquid
- Color: Colorless (water white)
- Specific gravity at 25°C: 1.12
- Viscosity at 25°C: 18.0 centistokes
- Flash point (SETA C.C.): 170°F/77°C minimum
- Soluble in: Oxygenated organic solvents
- Slightly soluble in water
appliance:
- Norox? MEC RED can be considered for gel and cure initiation of cobalt promoted unsaturated polyester resins at low operating temperatures.
- Norox? MEC RED performs well at room temperature.
- Compared to standard methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) formulations, it offers the following advantages:
- In many resins, the gel-to-cure time is short.
- Not as susceptible to cold conditions as the standard MEKP.
- Excellent smoothness and uniformity during the curing cycle.
- Excellent storage stability due to the absence of impurities (water, hydrogen peroxide, unreacted methyl ethyl ketone and other diluents).
- Performance enhancement when used with a gel layer (the hydrophobicity of Norox? MEC RED provides improved mixing and resin compatibility).
Packaging, transportation and supply:
- Norox? MEC RED is available in standard package sizes of 4x8 lb and 44 lb (20 kg) polyethylene bottles.
- Norox? MEC RED is also available pre-dyed in 44 lb (20 kg) bottles. Refer to United Initiators, Inc. technical data sheet for peroxide dye concentrates.
- Refer to Sections 14 and 15 of the specific Norox? MEC RED Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for transportation and regulatory information.
