NOROX ? AZOX FRED is a red solution of acetylacetone peroxide (AAP) or 2,4-pentanedione peroxide with stabilizers.NOROX ? AZOX is a very effective polymerization initiator for the room temperature cure of unsaturated polyester resins, and can be worked in most resin systems at very fast cure times with little or no effect on gel time. This performance characteristic is particularly beneficial in resin transfer molding (RTM), cast polymers, and other applications where rapid mold turnaround is required to increase productivity.An additional benefit of NOROX ? AZOX FRED is the low fire or explosion hazard. In the U.S., a precautionary organic peroxide yellow label is not required for shipping.

It is worth noting that the red dye added to this material will help indicate the progress of curing when mixed, as the color fades indicating that curing is in progress.

appliance NOROX ? AZOX FRED is an extremely effective initiator for fast curing in many resin systems without significantly shortening the gel time.NOROX ? AZOX FRED is best suited for cobalt-only promoted resins using 0.1% to 0.5% cobalt (naphthenic or octanoic acid in 6% solution). In some cases, the addition of 0.1% to 0.3% of diethyl or dimethylaniline accelerates the resin cure, producing an extremely high exothermic cure. The type and level of resin inhibitor also has a significant effect on the performance of NOROX ? AZOX FRED. In general, high inhibitor levels are usually undesirable, and some quaternary ammonium salts can cause significant yellowing of the resin, as well as inhibit the gel and cure characteristics of the resin system.

NOROX ? AZOX FRED curing initiators have observed excellent final cure and dimensional stability in toolmaking and RTM applications.

APPLICATION RESULTS Tables I and II show the results that can be obtained using NOROX ? AZOX FRED compared to standard MEKP formulations.

In addition, NOROX ? AZOX FRED is often used in combination with standard MEKP formulations, and the specific mixing ratio will give intermediate results between the two products, depending on the mixing ratio. Tables III and IV compare the gel and cure characteristics of several AAP/MEKP blends in casting and laminating resins.
