Product Overview::

• NOROX? 505-80 is a colorless, flowable liquid with a primary composition of approximately 80% w/w of 1,1-di-tert-butylperoxycyclohexane.
• This product is a cycloaliphatic peroxide used as an initiator for unsaturated polyester resins in the thermo-compression molding range (130-150°C).

• Appearance: colorless liquid.
• Peroxide content: approximately 80%.
• Active Oxygen Content: Approx. 9.821 TP3T.
• Antisensitizer: Aliphatic hydrocarbons (boiling point > 170°C).
• Density (20°C): approx. 0.89 g/cm3.
• Viscosity (20°C): approx. 4.81 mPa-s.
• Refractive index (20°C): approx. 1.434.
• Miscible with alcohols and phthalates, but insoluble in water.
• Explosion hazard temperature: approx. 85°C.
• Recommended storage temperature: below 30°C.
• Maintenance of activity: 6 months.

appliance::

• Curing agent for unsaturated polyester resins.
• Temperature range: 120-160°C.
• Supply use level: 0.5-2.5% as supplied.
• The "shelf life" at room temperature can vary from weeks to months depending on the type of resin.
• Very low sensitivity to fillers, pigments, cobalt salts or tertiary aromatic amines. The shelf life can be considerably extended by adding Inhibitor BC 500 with 0.1-0.3%.

Characterization and treatment::

• In the range of 80-90°C ("starting temperature"), curing is not very fast if the reaction heat does not lead to warming (e.g. in an insulated mold).
• A really short curing time of 1-3 minutes can only be achieved above 120°C.
