NOROX ? 400 is a colorless, flowable liquid composed primarily of technically pure tert-butyl peroxy-(2-ethylhexyl) carbonate. It is a carbonate monoperoxide with advantages in thermal stability and is used as an initiator (source of free radicals) in curing agents for unsaturated polyester resins. Main areas of application include hot compression molding of SMC or BMC at 130-160°C.

appliance
- Curing agent for unsaturated polyester resins, temperature range: 130-160°C.
- Usage: 1-2% as supplied.
- "Shelf life" (gel time of resin + peroxide) can be weeks or months at room temperature.
- Sensitive to some fillers and heavy metal salts.
- By adding Inhibitor BC-500 with 0.1-0.31 TP3T, the "shelf life" can be significantly extended.
- The curing rate in the range of 85-95°C ("cracking" temperature) is not high unless there is an exothermic reaction (e.g., in an insulated mold).
- Short curing times of a few minutes can only be achieved in the optimal temperature range of 130-160°C for hot compression molding.
- Mainly used for hot compression molding of SMC or BMC, but also for coil impregnation (e.g. transformers).
wrap
- NOROX ? 400 comes in a standard package of 25 kg.
