Description.
- CUROX? M-303 is a colorless liquid consisting of a mixture of peroxides based on methyl ethyl ketone peroxides, desensitized mainly by phthalate plasticizers. The peroxide is used as an initiator (free radical source) in the curing of unsaturated polyester resins.
- Main areas of application: Room temperature curing of gelatin layers, molded, cast or glass fiber reinforced products, in combination with cobalt accelerators.
Technical data.
- Appearance: Colorless liquid
- Active Oxygen: approx. 9.1% (mass %)
- Free hydrogen peroxide content: approx. 1.7% (mass %)
- Moisture content: approx. 1.5% (% by mass)
- Desensitizer: Dimethyl phthalate
- Density (20°C): ca. 1.1 g/cm3
- Viscosity (20°C): approx. 20 mPa-s
- Miscible with alcohols and phthalates
- SADT: Above 60°C
- Refrigeration stability: below -20°C
- Recommended storage temperature: 0°C to 30°C
- Maintains activity at 30°C for 6 months from date of delivery
Applications.
- Suitable for curing all unsaturated polyester resin types in combination with cobalt accelerators at room temperature.
- Standard Dose Levels: 1-31 TP3T as supplied, 0.5-21 TP3T with 11 TP3T cobalt solution.
- Also suitable for gelatin layers with improved permeation resistance and low porosity due to low moisture and hydrogen peroxide content.
- The "conformal period" (gel time of resin + peroxide + catalyst) is relatively short, but can be extended by the addition of an inhibitor, such as tert-butyl catechol.
Curing Properties.
- Medium heat release, long mold release time, medium mold release factor.
- Temperatures below 20°C significantly extend the curing time, or cobalt/amine accelerators can be used.
Processing Methods:
- Particularly suitable for hand lay-ups, spray lay-ups, centrifugal casting, fiber winding, resin casting as well as surface coatings (fillers, fillers, gelatine layers and topcoats).
- SPRAY EQUIPMENT: Use spray equipment according to manufacturer's instructions. Make sure all safety equipment is functioning properly. Do not spray MEKP into the air to clean the gun.
