Description.
- CUROX? M-300 is a colorless liquid consisting of a mixture of peroxides based on methyl ethyl ketone peroxides desensitized with phthalate plasticizers. This methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is mainly used as an initiator (source of free radicals) in the curing of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins.
Technical data.
- Appearance: Colorless liquid
- Active Oxygen: not less than 9.81 TP3T (% by mass)
- Desensitizer: Phthalate plasticizer
- Density (20°C): approx. 1.148 g/cm3
- Viscosity (20°C): approx. 23 mPa-s
- Not miscible with water, but soluble in phthalates
- SADT: approx. 60°C
- Recommended storage temperature: below 30°C
- Maintenance of activity at below 30°C for about 6 months
- Starting curing temperature in unsaturated polyester resins is about 70°C.
- Form of supply: 5 kg polyethylene container
Applications.
- For curing of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins at room temperature in combination with cobalt accelerators.
- Standard Dose Levels: 1-31 TP3T as supplied, 0.5-21 TP3T with 11 TP3T cobalt solution.
- "Shelf life" (gel time of resin + peroxide) is usually only a few hours, depending on temperature and resin type.
- "Shelf life" (gel time of resin + peroxide + catalyst) is relatively short, but can be extended with the addition of inhibitors. Other grades include Curox M-100 and Curox M-200.
Curing Properties.
- Moderate heat production and therefore relatively tension-free curing: Medium mold release time.
- High ambient temperatures accelerate full cure. Use Curox M-200 to cure unsaturated polyester resins and Curox M-100 to cure vinyl ester resins at high temperatures.
Processing Methods:
- Particularly suitable for hand lay-ups, spray lay-ups, centrifugal casting, fiber winding, resin casting as well as surface coatings (fillers, fillers, gelatine layers and topcoats).
- SPRAY EQUIPMENT: Use spray equipment according to manufacturer's instructions. Make sure all safety equipment is functioning properly. Do not spray MEKP into the air to clean the gun.
Security and Handling.
- The product should be stored in closed supply containers at temperatures below +30°C. Maintain a well-ventilated area. Keep away from sources of ignition and heat (e.g. direct sunlight). Isolate from other hazardous and incompatible substances.
- Avoid contamination with rust, dust and dirt. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Wash hands before finishing work and before taking breaks. Preventive skin protection is recommended. Use adequate ventilation if necessary. Vacuum equipment to absorb product vapors generated. Avoid formation of aerosols. Do not inhale vapors/aerosols. Wear appropriate respiratory protection if necessary. Peroxide residues cannot be returned to original container and may decompose.
