Description.
- CUROX? M-202 is a colorless liquid consisting of a mixture of peroxides based on methyl ethyl ketone peroxides using desensitized aliphatic esters. This methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is mainly used as an initiator (free radical source) in the curing of unsaturated polyester resins. The main application is for curing molded parts at room temperature with cobalt accelerators.
Technical data.
- Appearance: Colorless liquid
- Active Oxygen: approximately 9.11 TP3T (mass %)
- Desensitizer: Aliphatic ester
- Density (20°C): approx. 1.01 g/cm3.
- Viscosity (20°C): approx. 16 mPa-s
- Not miscible with water, but miscible with esters and unsaturated polyester/vinyl ester resins.
- SADT: approx. 60°C
- Cold storage stability: liquid up to -25°C
- Recommended storage temperature: below 30°C
- Maintenance of activity below 30°C for 6 months from the date of delivery
Applications.
- Curing agent for unsaturated polyester resins in combination with cobalt accelerators at room temperature. Particularly suitable for resins based on phthalic and isophthalic acids.
- Standard Dose Levels: 1-31 TP3T as supplied, 0.5-21 TP3T with 11 TP3T cobalt solution.
- "Shelf life" (gel time of resin + peroxide) is usually only a few hours, depending on temperature and resin type.
- The "conformal period" (gel time of resin + peroxide + catalyst) is relatively short, but can be extended by the addition of the inhibitor TC-510. As a result, the mold release factor (fMR=tMR/tgel) can be significantly improved.
Curing Properties.
- Moderate heat production. Relatively long release times with moderate mold release factors. Temperatures below 20°C will significantly extend the cure time, or cobalt/amine accelerators can be used.
Processing Methods:
- Particularly suitable for hand lay-ups, spray lay-ups, centrifugal casting, fiber winding, resin casting as well as surface coatings (fillers, fillers, gelatine layers and topcoats).
Spraying equipment.
- Use spray equipment and follow manufacturer's instructions. Ensure that all safety devices are functioning properly. Do not clean the muzzle by spraying the MEKP into the air.
Measurement.
- Reactivity: "DIN 16945 Cobalt Curing" at 25°C using OPA resin (20 g).
- Formulation (wt.): Medium reaction resin type (OPA) 100, CUROX? M-202 2, Accelerator C-101 2.
- Curing data: gel time t gel [min] 2.0, max. curing time t max [min] 14.5, peak temperature T max [°C] 141.
Standard Packaging.
- Curox? M-202 is available in standard package sizes of 5 kg and 22.5 kg polyethylene bottles.
