Description: CUROX? M-102R is a peroxide based on methyl ethyl ketone, red in color, desensitized with aliphatic esters. It is mainly used as a hardener for unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins, characterized by an optimal homogenization in the mixture due to its red color. After the hardening reaction, the red color of the compound is no longer visible. The main application is the hardening of large molded parts at room temperature in combination with cobalt accelerators.
Technical data:
- Appearance: red liquid
- Active Oxygen Content: approx. 8.6% w/w
- Desensitizer: Aliphatic ester
- Density at 20°C: approx. 1.01 g/cm3.
- Viscosity at 20°C: approx. 13 mPa-s
- Immiscible with water, miscible with esters, unsaturated polyester/vinyl ester resins
- SADT: approx. 60°C
- Stability at low temperatures: liquid, below -25°C
- Recommended storage temperature: below 30°C
- Maintenance of activity up to 30°C: 6 months from the date of delivery
- Starting temperature in UP resin: approx. 70°C
- Complies with directives such as RoHS and WEEE.
Applications:
- Polyester Resin Hardening: In combination with a cobalt accelerator for all types of unsaturated polyester resins, as well as vinyl ester resins. Standard dosage levels: 1-31 TP3T, plus 0.5-21 TP3T of 11 TP3T cobalt solution (or alternative cobalt amine accelerator). Typical "gel time" (resin + peroxide) depends on temperature and resin type, usually only a few hours. The "open time" (gel time for resin + peroxide + accelerator) is relatively long, especially when hardening phthalic or isophthalic resins.
Hardening properties:
- Moderately exothermic and therefore low internal stress for vinyl ester resins.
- Relatively short mold opening time, i.e. good mold release coefficient.
- Temperatures below 20°C and/or some specific resin types can significantly extend hardening times. For unsaturated polyester resins, use more active grades (CUROX M-202, 302, 402) and for vinyl ester resins, add amine accelerators.
Treatment:
- Particularly suitable for hand lamination, spray molding, centrifugal casting, fiber winding, resin casting, and surface coating (fillers, putties, gelatin coatings and topcoats).
Spraying equipment:
- Use spray equipment that meets manufacturer's instructions. Make sure all safety equipment is functioning properly. Do not spray MEKP into the air to clean the gun.
Measurement of activity:
- The activity was measured according to DIN 16945 "Cobalt Hardening" at 25°C together with OPA resin (20 g).
Standard Packaging:
- CUROX? M-102R is packaged in standard 22.5 kg polyethylene bottles.
