CUROX? M-102 is a methyl ethyl ketone peroxide used as a curing agent for unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins. The following is key information about this product:

Appearance and composition:

• Appearance: colorless liquid.
• Active Oxygen Content: approximately 8.61 TP3T w/w.
• Antisensitizers: Use of fatty acid esters.
• Density (20°C): approx. 1.01 g/cm3.
• Viscosity (20°C): approx. 13 mPa-s.
• Solubility: insoluble in water, miscible with ester, unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resin.
• Critical temperature (SADT): approx. 60°C.
• Refrigeration stability: liquid can be below -25°C.
• Recommended storage temperature: below 30°C.
• The retention time of activity at 30°C is 6 months from the date of delivery.

Areas of application:

• Primary application: For curing large molded parts at room temperature with cobalt catalyst.
• For curing of unsaturated polyester resins, suitable for all unsaturated polyester resin types and vinyl ester resins.
• Standard dosage level: 1-31 TP3T of supply, with 0.5-21 TP3T of 11 TP3T cobalt solution (or alternative cobalt amine catalyst).
• The "shelf life" (gel time of the resin + peroxide) is usually only a few hours, depending on temperature and resin type.
• The "latency period" (gel time of resin + peroxide + catalyst) is relatively long, especially when it comes to curing ortho- or isophthalic resins.

Curing performance:

• Moderate heat release and therefore low internal stress.
• Recommended for vinyl ester (VE) resins.
• Relatively short demolding time, i.e. good demolding factor (fMR = tMR/tgel).
• Temperatures below 20°C and/or some specific resin types can significantly retard curing, and more reactive grades of unsaturated polyester resins (CUROX M-202, 302, 402) are recommended; for VE resins, add an amine catalyst.

Processing methods:

• Particularly suitable for hand-covering, spray-covering, centrifugal casting, fiber winding, resin casting as well as surface coatings (fillers, fillers, gelatin coatings and topcoats).

Spraying equipment:

• Use spray equipment using manufacturer's instructions. Make sure all safety devices are working properly. Do not clean the gun by spraying MEKP into the air.

Measurement of activity:

• The "cobalt cure" test was performed at 25°C using OPA resin (20g in a test tube).

• CUROX? M-102 is available in standard package sizes of 5 kg and 22.5 kg polyethylene bottles.
