DESCRIPTION: BENOX? B-50 and B-55 are fine dispersions of dibenzoyl peroxide in a smooth, non-separating, refractory, creamy paste form. Their patented (U.S. Patent No. 5,334,326) benzoate plasticizer diluent system provides product formulations that dissolve easily in resins and monomers. These products are less hazardous and easier to use than the dry granular form of dibenzoyl peroxide, provided the plasticizer and moisture content are not objectionable. Other benefits of benzoate plasticizer systems include better dispersion for heat degradation resistance and elimination of phthalate plasticizers.
Product Variant:
- BENOX? B-50-106: Creamy, white, non-separating, containing 50% dibenzoyl peroxide, mainly used for automotive body filling.
- BENOX? B-50-210: Blue variant of 50% dibenzoyl peroxide, creamy, non-separating, for automotive body filling.
- BENOX? B-50-230: Light blue variant of 50% dibenzoyl peroxide, creamy, non-separating, used for automotive body filling for customers who prefer a light blue paste.
- BENOX? B-50-513: Red colored 50% dibenzoyl peroxide paste, one of the most popular non-separating paste formulations in the B-50 series.
- BENOX? B-50-713: 50% dibenzoyl peroxide paste with a halo appearance, non-separating, for automotive body filling.
- BENOX? B-55-107: A basic white paste of 55% dibenzoyl peroxide, primarily used in the mining bolting industry and other industries where further dilution is required prior to use.
- BENOX? B-55-108: A white paste of 55% dibenzoyl peroxide formulated for ambient and elevated temperature curing of unsaturated polyester resins. Compared to Formulation 107, B-55-108 has a lower moisture content, is creamy and does not separate.
Technical data:
- Dibenzoyl Peroxide content: B-50 (50%), B-55 (55%)
- Active oxygen content: B-50 (3.3%), B-55 (3.6%)
- Form: Cream Paste
- Color: white
- Solubility: soluble in oxidizing and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents, slightly soluble in alcohols and petroleum solvents, insoluble in chlorinated solvents
Applications: BENOX? B-50 & B-55 are primarily used as polymerization initiators and curing agents for monomer ethylene, propylene, styrene and unsaturated polyester/vinyl ester resins, as well as copolymers of these resins, provided that plasticizers and moisture content can be tolerated. This product offers the following advantages over dry granular products:
- Significantly reduce the hazards involved in handling and storage.
- The very fine particles of dibenzoyl peroxide are uniformly dispersed in the plasticizer and dissolve more readily in the resin, eliminating the dangerous practice of dissolving dry dibenzoyl peroxide in styrene, acetone or other volatile solvents.
In addition, the following areas of application were mentioned:
- Normal temperature molding
- Automobile body filling
- High Temperature Molding
- bonding agent
